"In your rocking-chair, by your window dreaming, shall you long, alone. In your rocking-chair, by your window, shall you dream such happiness as you may never feel."

"stale peace of old bedtimes
filled the room. Love does not
make me gentle or kind. thought Geryon"

—Anne Carson, Autobiography of Red

i said this was my favorite book when pressed. upon review, the statement remains true.

love does
NOT
make me gentle
or
kind

etc

“In Chapter 7 of The Autobiography of Red, Geryon meets Herakles for the first time. Anne Carson says they “recognized each other like italics.” Like the second they shared the same patch of air they were already leaning into each other. She also says their meeting was “one of those moments that is the opposite of blindness.” Like they couldn’t stop seeing each other once it had started, that they were so busy seeing each other everything else fell away. Like the world between them stopped, and the world around them just kept moving. I didn’t think that would ever happen to me, that I’d ever get to live like someone out of a book. Then, of course, I got to meet you.”

(Found this on my computer last night in a word document titled “Aftershock.” ….huh.)

"

You said, this
doesn’t happen so quick
I must remind you of someone

No,
though I am seduced
by this light, and
frantic arguments on the porch,
I ain’t subtle
you run rings
round me

but this quietness
white dress long legs
arguing your body away from me

and I with all the hunger
I didn’t know I had

"

—Michael Ondaatje, The Cinnamon Peeler

For my creative writing class, we were to take our birthday, turn it into a page number, and write about the respective poem (which was apparently supposed to be telling about us). All numerical combinations of my birthday (5/24) were blank pages. I was born at 1:24 AM (the same time Elizabeth Taylor died). This poem was on page 124.

basically: yuuuuuuup.

I ain’t subtle / you run rings / round me

and I with all the hunger / I didn’t know I had

Lana Del Rey — Off To The Races

WELL, Lana Del Rey’s full length leaked so I’ll be busy obsessing over it for at least the rest of the week.

Everything about this song is good, especially “cause he know’s I’m wasted,” the way she say “I’M CRAZY, BABY,” and the music video I immediately saw in my head on first listen.

Devendra Banhart — Bad Girl

I’ve been a bad girl / I ain’t playin’ fair
I want you to be free / but I don’t wanna share
no I don’t wanna let you go / but it’s about time I do
I can’t blame you anymore

While compiling the playlist for my first radio show (theme: Cruel Intentions, Songs About Bad People), I found a song I had never listened to before.

WAH, WAH, WAH, WAH, WAH, WAH. and on and on and on.
